Comedian Richard Lewis, a recurring Curb Your Enthusiasm since the pilot episode, released on Monday, he will not be part of the next 11th season of the HBO comedy.
“What a ride, LD! I love you friend, ” Lewis tweeted next to a picture of you and Sidewalk edge star Larry David. “Tragically, in the last 18 months I had surgery on my back and two on my shoulder and I was not able to stay on #curbyourenthusiasm in the 11th season. I’ll be watching … ”
In a separate statement for our sister site VarietyLewis called Sidewalk edge “The best comedy show I could have imagined”, adding that he “I hope[s] be present in the 12th season! “
Lewis has appeared in 39 episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm – including seven episodes from the most recent 10th season – playing a semi-autobiographical version of himself, who is a longtime friend of David’s character. (In real life, comedians have been friends since adolescence.)
Curb Your Enthusiasm it marked a renewal of the 11th season in June 2020, although there is currently no release schedule for the new episodes; the show is known to have long gaps between seasons, that is, the six-year gap between seasons 8 and 9 in 2011 and 2017.
Season 10, in turn, won a Primetime Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Series in 2020, and TVLine was nominated Sidewalk edge as the most improved comedy of the past year.
