Marcy Kelly wrote the film, which will be produced by Mattel Films, with Kevin “Coach K” Lee from Quality Control, Pierre “P” Thomas and Brian Sher. Mattel’s Robbie Brenner will serve as executive producer, with Kevin McKeon overseeing the company.
Brenner said: “Uno is a game that transcends generations and cultures and we hope to partner with Lil Yachty, as well as Coach, P and Brian Sher, to transform the classic UNO game into an action-adventure comedy.”
Yachty added: “I played Uno when I was a kid and I still play today, so turning this into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special. For me, it comes close to home. “
Mattel Television is teaming up with Propagate founders, Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens, for a television reality game show, also based on the Uno brand. Mattel’s Hollywood projects include the Barbie movie at Warner Bros. and a feature film produced by Daniel Kaluuya, Barney, as well as projects based on Hot Wheels, Viewfinder and other toys.
Yachty, represented by ICM Partners, played a leading role in the MTV television movie How high 2.
