Like OPPD, NPPD decide who loses power

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – The idea of saving energy was not only aimed at homeowners on Mondays and Tuesdays. Companies that use a lot of power have been asked to do the same.

For example, 6 News has moved our transmitter to our tower here for generator power and none of us are out of danger yet.

The energy problems increased rapidly. We started receiving calls from homeowners in Bellevue yesterday.

“I heard that neighbor after neighbor ran out of power,” said a Bellevue owner.

Ten thousand customers lost power on Monday. Then, on Tuesday, OPPD turned off more electricity to help ease the pressure on a Texas-North Dakota network, ready to explode during the record cold.

Neighborhoods from Elkhorn to Pepperwood and 90 and Dodge saw their lights go out. The continuous blackout intentionally took out 72,000 customers in different parts of the morning for just over an hour each. The random interruption even reached the home of Tim Burke, head of the Omaha District Government.

“There is no preferential treatment there,” said OPPD spokesman Jodi Baker.

But, as 6 News discovered, some neighborhoods lost energy and others did not.

Why? The short answer is: it depends.

Those with OPPD and NPPD say they pay attention to critical points where power is essential, such as schools, prisons, 911 centers, police stations, fire departments, nursing homes and hospitals. If you live near one of these places, you may have paused.

While many of these examples have generators because they never know when a tornado or squirrel can damage a transformer, decision makers work to lessen the impact.

“We sit in a tenuous situation again,” said NPPD CEO Tom Kent.

With the possibility of more blackouts on Tuesday night and Wednesday, those who lead the energy companies understand the difficult position they are placing on their customers.

“There is no way to say, ‘OK, at 8 in the morning, let’s interrupt.’ Think of it as a tornado or ice storm: this is an emergency, and when it does, our operators take steps to ensure that the system’s reliability is not degraded to the point of a general and uncontrolled outage, ”said Kent.

6 The news has been told that if there are more blackouts on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, they will try to reach neighborhoods that have not lost energy before – but there is no way to prevent you from losing energy again.
