
South Carolina men’s basketball ends its season at 4 pm on ESPNEWS, one of two games played today at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, for the Hall of Fame Classic. The Gamecocks begin their ninth season under coach Frank Martin and return most of last year’s team, led by junior AJ Lawson and Justin Minaya and second year Jermaine Couisnard. Columbia native Seventh Woods, who has played in North Carolina for three seasons, is eligible to play today after transferring to the program and staying out last season.

FIRST HALF

– 15:29, Liberty leads from 5 to 4: Gamecocks start 1 of 6 on the field, a throwback from Keyshawn Bryant is the only brand. Gamecocks already have three robberies, but they haven’t been able to score much on the other end.
– 11:04, Liberty leads 12-8: Both teams shot less than 30 percent of the field, but Flames has a pair of three points. Gamecocks is still looking for the first. The jumpers were made inside the arch of Bryant and Seventh Woods.
– 7:31, Liberty takes 22-16: Bryant leads the team with seven points after a dunk after a failed Frink jump. The Flames are making their shots out of the paint, firing 40 percent of the three-point range. Both teams have five turnovers. Gamecocks shooting 32 percent from the field, Flames up 47 percent.

SECOND TIME
– 16:09, Liberty takes 49-33: Gamecocks barely managed to cut the lead. The flames did not start to heat up from a long distance, but the attack changed to painting.
– 14:52, Liberty leads 53-38: AJ Lawson up to 10 points, shooting 4-0f-10 from the ground. Freedom shooting at 54%. Gamecocks gaining 21-19 rebounds, but losing points in painting 20-16.
– 11:51 am, Liberty leads 58-40: Gamecocks lost opportunity after opportunity to earn points in the painting, but did not have friendly strikes on the edge. Liberty slowed down on the offensive side, but Carolina was unable to catch up. Gamecocks shooting 34% of the field.
– 7:17, Liberty leads 65-45: More of the same for Gamecocks, who failed to get any momentum on the offensive or defensive side of the court. The team that fights continues with less than 35 percent of shots, while the team that plays with strides is shooting above 50 percent.
– 6:02, Liberty takes 68-50: Gamecocks reduced it to 15 and then gave up three points when TJ Moss is late to close, lunches at the shooter.
– 3:40, Liberty takes 70-54: Gamecocks took four of his last five shots to increase his shot percentage to 38 percent. Lawson with 12 points, Bryant with 10. Couisnard has eight points, but is only 3 of 12 points.
