LG has a transparent OLED screen, and if you’re wondering how useful that device can be, the company has some ideas to share.
Before the CES 2021 show, LG shared some ideas about how its transparent OLED products could fit in real-world situations.
One idea is to have a transparent OLED in a restaurant, where the display emerged from the bar, between the customer and the waiter, allowing the customer to see the menu and order while still seeing the waiter.
LG has also designed a Smart Bed with a frame from which a transparent OLED TV can rise and retract when not needed. The frame, which also has a set of speakers, can be freely moved around the house.
Another example is having a transparent 55-inch OLED display on a subway train, where it replaces a traditional window. Customers were able to enjoy the landscape while viewing the weather forecast, news and information about the metro lines.
In addition to subways, LG envisions its transparent OLED TVs in autonomous cars, aircraft and smart buildings.
LG says its transparent OLED screens have 40% transparency, which is much better than transparent LCDs, which have only 10% transparency. This makes these TVs useful in a greater number of settings, including autonomous cars, aircraft and smart buildings, to name a few.
We’ll know more about LG’s transparent OLED displays when CES 2021 launches on January 11th.
