In keeping with its annual tradition, LG Display is preparing to showcase some new demos of screen technology for CES 2021, with the latest focus on showing where transparent OLED can fit in the pandemic era. The Korean company is putting together some physical demos for its online showroom, with the most interesting (so far) being a restaurant scene with a 55-inch transparent OLED screen in the sushi bar. Diners can browse the menu or watch videos on the big screen, while watching chefs prepare the food behind this futuristic hygienic partition, thanks to its 40% transparency. In comparison, the transparent LCD offers only 10 percent transparency, according to LG Display.
In another demonstration, the company will place the same 55-inch transparent OLED panel on the end of a “smart bed”, so that the user can watch videos up close, in the comfort of the bed, without the panel blocking the view of the rest of the room. On a similar note, the display unit has “Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO)” speakers built into the main body, so no external speakers are required. With the click of a button, the transparent screen can fit partially or completely to the main body, with the previous mode still allowing the display of information such as time and weather. As the unit is mounted on wheels, you can also place it in other rooms and enjoy the same viewing benefits.
