Lexus is reportedly working on a new IS F and a 660-HP LC F

The 2021 versions of the Lexus IS and Lexus LS focused on refining what the company calls “Lexus Driving Signature”, drawing a new map for Lexus sedans where the surrounding driving is a central selling point. If this report from Japan Best Car Web If materialized, Lexus could deliver on that promise by offering hot versions of the IS and LS.

The Series 3 combat IS compact is slated to obtain the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 from the Lexus RC F, the report says. This would mark the return of the beloved IS F, a model that appeared for a generation in 2008 with the same 5.0 under the hood. The engine has been tuned ever since, generating 472 hp on the RC F. It is an incredible engine, which makes the RC F, otherwise uncompetitive, desirable. But the company is working with an aging, cramped platform that requires large protrusions in the passenger compartment to fit the four-wheel drive hardware and still uses a six-speed gearbox in the four-wheel drive configuration.

Asked in October whether the 5.0-liter V-8 would fit, a Lexus spokesman declined to comment. Pressed on whether a new IS F was on the horizon, the spokesman declined to comment, but did not immediately deny. A Lexus source said a new IS variant will be launched next month, but declined to share details or confirm that it would be a 5.0-powered IS F.

However, if the rumor is believed, this is far from being the most powerful F model in the funnel. Best Car Web it also says that a hotter version of the LC500 is coming, something that has been rumored for a long time. Lexus has officially confirmed that it has a twin-turbo V-8 in development, but now we report the specifications: a 4.0-liter twin-turbo mill producing up to 660 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. That’s a huge number that puts the LC500 close to Hellcat territory, but it’s even more wild to think that – according to the rumor – this engine could end up in the docile LS as well.

Sought to comment, a Lexus spokesman said the company does not comment on future products. We will have to wait and see if any of these rumors will work, but it would certainly be nice to see Lexus taking the big power struggle to its German and Italian competitors.
