Lexington police clear the situation in the city center after the evacuation

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A major disturbance in downtown Lexington on New Year’s Eve has been released by the police.

Just before 8 pm, the police evacuated a large area, including half a dozen blocks and several bars.

We had several reports that the police were looking at a trailer parked in a parking lot on W. Short St. and Market.

The police said in a tweet that a police officer noticed the big trailer. A canine explosive detector was brought and “alerted” to the vehicle.

The police department’s Dangerous Devices Unit responded to the scene. The police claim to have made contact with the driver of the trailer and no explosives were found.

“Public safety is one of my top priorities and the events at the center of this night remind us of how important it is. In our city, a well-trained and diligent police force protects us, ”said Mayor Linda Gorton in a statement. “Thanks to our officers.”
