Neon

Neon distributor partnered with Letterboxd, the rapidly growing global social network for discussing and discovering films, to give platform users access to the list of foreign documentaries and films from the studio selected for the 93rd Oscar. From March 8 to 14, Letterboxd users can stream all six of Neon’s pre-selected titles for the discounted package price of $ 19.99 at watch.neonrated.com. This news marks the first time that Letterboxd will offer new films that have not been broadcast on any other platform directly to its member base.

The six films included in the package will feature the documentary “Gunda” directed by Victor Kossakovsky and executive production by Joaquin Phoenix; “Notturno”, by Gianfranco Rosi, which is the presentation of Italy to the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film; “The Painter and the Thief”, directed by Benjamin Ree and nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary; Best international feature by Andrei Konchalovsky from Russia, “Dear comrades! “Noite dos Reis”, Finalization of the Oscar da Côte d’Ivoire by Philippe Lacôte; and “Quo Vadis, Aida?” by Jasmila Žbanić, the presentation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to a statement by Letterboxd executive David Larkin: “Partnering with Neon to offer this selection of six sensational films is an excellent opportunity for our community to be part of the award season conversation.”

The partnership is also expected to attract new members to the site (which was recently published in The New York Times). Launched in 2011, Letterboxd is a global community made up of more than three million film lovers in more than 200 countries. Users rate, comment and share their movie watching activities. Last year, the Letterboxd community recorded 210 million watched movies, wrote 16 million reviews and created nearly two million lists.

Neon was recently featured in the Berlin Film Festival for the acquisition of Céline Sciamma’s acclaimed world premiere, “Petite Maman”. The distribution in this film will bring Neon together with Sciamma after his successful collaboration on 2019’s “Portrait of a burning lady”. Other upcoming projects on Neon include Pablo Larraín’s “Spencer”, starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana during a crucial moment in your life; Ben Wheatley’s return to the bloody horror with “In the Earth”, which recently debuted at the Sundance Film Festival; as well as a narrative remake of the Norwegian documentary “The Painter and the Thief”.
