The latest idea to get to the Lego fan-driven crowdsourcing site is based on Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise, and has a chance at retail glory.
A dedicated fan of both The legend of Zelda and LEGO combined their passions into a project that currently seeks more support on the LEGO IDEAS platform. In recent years, the building brick brand has expanded into a series of Hollywood films while, at the same time, focusing on what its most dedicated fans love about its product. This led to the idea of IDEAS, a place where LEGO can gather ideas for its next playset. If the idea is licensed, the company can send definitive proof that the support exists to close the deal.
The site produced several unique LEGO sets that also quickly became highly collectible pieces as soon as their run on the retail shelves was over. The typical fare you would expect from this type of site has already been made, with LEGO versions of traditionally nerdy properties like Back to the futurefrom DeLorean, Voltron, and the lightcycles of Tron: Legacy everything becoming buildable with bricks. The most unconventional ideas that were approved through the project include sets based on Alone at home, Seinfeldand Big Bang Theory, as well as a series of more traditional LEGO sets that are not tied to a specific existing property.

If approved, the proposed Hyrule Castle defined on the basis of O Legend of Zelda it would be the first video game property to hit the shelves through the program. The set includes minifigures for Link, Zelda, Ganon, some inhabitants of the city of Hyrul and a set of Cuccos. The playset also has several rooms with functions that resemble the classic Zelda games. Among other features, the main tower of the castle can be transformed into Ganon’s lair with a simple movement, and Link can pull the Master Sword from its perch in the Temple of Time.
Of course, this is not the first set proposed based on The legend of Zelda to achieve LEGO Ideas, and it probably won’t be the last. Several previous builds based on the game were rejected for several reasons, including the need for LEGO to build many custom pieces. The pitches on the site need 10,000 supporters before they are officially accepted for analysis, but the set’s creator, Artem Biziaev, has already hit the first hurdle and now has more than a year to gain support and move towards the next milestone. With Nintendo and LEGO now in a working relationship thanks to Mario’s 35th birthday in 2020, the set has a better chance than ever of hitting the shelves if enough users register their interest.
A LEGO set based on The legend of Zelda it looks like a dunk for all parties involved. Nintendo is giving more than ever when it comes to working with companies outside its intimate circle. For LEGO, the constant flood of different Zelda the suggestions on the IDEAS page show that there is an interest in turning the game into a buildable toy. All that is needed is a boat full of signatures and the team has a real chance to cross the finish line and land in the homes of players everywhere.
