LeBron James extends record scoring streak to 1,000

LeBron James celebrated his 36th birthday on Wednesday, and he did so with a milestone that only he could achieve.

Facing the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Lakers star scored double-digit points for the thousandth consecutive game of his career, extending an NBA record streak to quadruple digits.

James sealed the milestone in the second quarter, hitting a paint turnaround jumper.

James set the record for 10 consecutive points in March 2018 with 867 games, breaking Michael Jordan’s old streak. The only other active player in the NBA with a streak of over 200 games is James Harden with 411, according to NBA.com.

Only LeBron James could do that

In the vast setting of James’ achievements, few accomplishments sum up his greatness more than his 10-point streak. For more than a decade, James took the floor and did something about the attack, whatever the circumstances.

The record is also a testament to James’ durability. Although he has lost a few games over the years, including 27 in the 2018-19 season, he never left a game before scoring 10 points or holding back enough for a minute limit.

James’ streak goes back to January 5, 2007, when he scored just eight points against the Milwaukee Bucks. Since then, he has scored exactly 10 points three times on ESPN, but never less.

However, this milestone comes with the important observation that it is only regular season games. Throughout the streak, James ended in double digits in the playoffs, most recently a seven-point effort with the Miami Heat in game 5 of the 2014 Eastern Conference finals against the Indiana Pacers.
