The ruined king is one of the most legendary figures in the League of Legends and he’s finally getting into the game for the first time. On Friday, as part of the celebration of turns on2021 season, Riot released a teaser for the new champion.
In CG cinematics, the Ruined King, whose real name is Viego, appears in a small quiet area of Runeterra and brings darkness with him. Viego first confronts Lucian and Senna and uses Senna’s power to try to bring back his lost love and restore his kingdom. We see champions from around the world like Poppy, Samira, Darius and Vayne defending their kingdoms separate from the forces of Viego. When everyone is about to get overwhelmed, Lucian manages to delay Viego for a moment and escape with Senna.

The video ends with Viego gaining even more strength, and Lucian saying that he and Senna will not be able to stop the Ruined King alone. Although this is a bit of a hook, according to Riot, Viego’s story is one that will be explored in many League of Legends stories and games throughout the year.
In fact, Ryan Mireles, the main producer of turns onchampion team, said there will be three new champions launched as part of Viego’s history. The first will be a top-line Brawler, which apparently has scissors or tailoring as its theme. Then there will be a “dark” Yordle that will serve as an artillery wizard in the game. Finally, Riot also briefly teased a new sniper champion, but did not share any details, except that they could play the role in a non-traditional way.

The vaunted place of the King in ruins in League of Legends lore comes mainly from the item that bears his name: Blade of the Ruined King. One of turns onmost identifiable and iconic weapons from, players have long wondered about their namesake and why exactly their blade is so important. In fact, they wondered about it enough for Riot to partner with Airship Syndicate to make a whole game about it called Ruined King: A League of Legends Story.
According to Riot’s press material, it looks like Viego will be mostly a jungler, and it looks like once he kills an enemy champion, he will have a chance to control him for a brief time. Riot has also released a full review of the Viego kit so you can find out exactly what it can do. Although we don’t know exactly when Riot plans to launch Viego, the developer said it should come out later this month.
In the same video that announced Viego, Riot also gave players a few more details about League of Legends: Wild Rift, the mobile and console version of League of Legends. Wild Rift will go to North America for its open beta in March.
