League City, Texas: Restaurant manager Jack in the Box stabbed by a customer who refused to wear a mask, police said

“It is a very polarizing situation,” said League City police chief Gary Ratliff. “Where some people don’t believe there should be masks and others do.”

According to the police, James Schulz, 53, entered the restaurant on Wednesday night without a mask. He was asked to use one to be served or to use the drive thru.

The customer “aggressively declined,” said Ratliff, and accused restaurant employees of not wanting to serve him because he was a homeless person.

Schulz then walked towards the door, and when the manager turned his back, he supposedly ran after the manager, grabbed him and stabbed him several times in the arm and upper torso with what looked like a pocket knife, according with Ratliff.

Several co-workers rushed to help the manager and Schulz ran away from the restaurant by bicycle. The manager was transported to a hospital in the area with three knife wounds, was treated and discharged.

The police are still looking for Schulz and describe him as a temporary resident in the area.

Ratliff said people should respect the mask policies of local companies.

“Many of these people had some of these events, I don’t know this manager, but they had personal events with loved ones who died and died because of Covid, as some of our officers did,” Ratliff said. “All I ask is that people respect the opinions and policies of these companies.”

“You can refuse to do business there, or whatever you decide to do, but there is no reason to resort to aggressive behavior like that,” he added.
