Laura Branigan’s legacy businessman calls it “absolutely terrifying” that the late singer’s celebrated song “Gloria” was played to cheer up Trump and the participants at his rally on Wednesday.

While the rush continues over the “Stop the Steal” riot that turned into a riot – which saw pro-Trump protesters invade the Capitol, defacing and stealing property in a mess that resulted in five deaths – Kathy Golik, who was Branigan’s manager his death in 2004, condemned a video apparently recorded by Donald Trump Jr. showing the backstage of the rally with a strident “Gloria”.

In a series of tweets, Golik said it was “sad” and “disturbing” to see Branigan’s “beautiful memory and legacy have any association with Pres. Trump is such a bleak day in U.S. history. Neither Laura nor her music deserves any unjustified consequences due to other people’s actions. “

She went on to call it “absolutely terrifying” to hear “Gloria” from 1982, for which Branigan received a Grammy nomination, “being played in the background of a Pres video. Yesterday’s Trump, given the tragic, disturbing and shameful events that occurred on the United States Capitol. “

And that “no permission” was given to use the music, “neither his endorsement, past or present, was granted to Pres. Trump on behalf of Laura or her legacy management company. ”He ended by saying that they“ strongly and vehemently DO NOT tolerate ”Wednesday’s events.

The video appears to have been recorded behind the scenes at Ellipse, the park south of the White House fence where Trump has long addressed his supporters, claiming the election was rigged against him and urging viewers to go to the Capitol, where President A Joe Biden’s victory should be made official, to interrupt the proceedings. Trump Jr. was in a tent area with his father, along with Kayleigh McEnany, Kimberly Guilfoyle and others on the Trump team as they looked at the monitors and talked about the logistics of the rally.

Trump Jr. pans and then focuses on Guilfoyle, who dances to the music for her boyfriend. The first son tells his followers that the rally is about to begin, prompting Guilfoyle to ask Trump supporters to do the right thing and “fight” against the election results.

Of course, Trump supporters fought after the president’s speech. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick died after the pro-Trump riot – and the servant rebels died as well.

Branigan, who began her career as a supporting singer for Leonard Cohen, recorded the English cover of the Italian song “Gloria” for her self-titled debut solo album in 1982. The song, which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance , pushed her to the top of the charts. (She was also nominated for contributing “Imagination” to the Flashdance soundtrack, which was nominated for Album of the Year in 1983.)

Branigan, whose other hit songs from his seven albums include “Solitaire”, “Self Control”, “Spanish Eddie” and Michael Bolton co-written “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You”, died in 2004 of a brain aneurysm in 52 years.

In 2019, “Gloria” became the post-game victory song for the NHL hockey team St. Louis Blues during the team’s race for the Stanley Cup. Golik said on Twitter that “Gloria” should only be played in celebration – and by the Blues.

A Trump spokesman did not respond to our request for comment. It is a final tumultuous two weeks for him, as Democratic lawmakers have threatened to challenge him over the mutiny if he is not removed by Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet through the 25th Amendment. In addition, members of his administration are stepping down because of the riot.
