Launching Collection Challenges on Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO presents a new feature – Collection Challenges! Collection challenges are a practical concept that challenges players to collect Pokémon presented during certain events.

Completing the Collection Challenges gives you several in-game rewards and adds levels to your new Elite Collector badge. Collection Challenges are available in the Today View and are linked to the corresponding game event.

Once the game event ends, the tied Collection Challenge closes and can no longer be completed. In a sense, Collection Challenges are like Timed Research, but completing them counts for your Elite Collector medal.

The Unova Collection Challenge is the first Collection Challenge on Pokémon GO

The Unova Celebration event takes place tomorrow, January 5, 2020, at 10:00 am local time. To promote the event, and to promote the launch of Collection Challenges, the first collection challenge brings Unova Pokémon!

The Challenge accidentally leaked earlier today – check out our Unova Collection Challenge going live before the Unova Commemoration Event – error? article for more details – and let’s just share the Pokémon included in the challenge here:

Judging by the timer initially leaked in the game, the challenge will be live from Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 10 am, to Sunday, January 10, 2021, at 8 pm local time.

Completing the Unova Collection Challenge will reward the following:

For more details on the entire event, check out our Unova Region Commemoration Event published on December 23, 2020.

Our thoughts on the challenges of the collection

Initially, I felt that the Collection Challenges will be another FOMO (fear to lose) moment for Pokémon GO players, but my position on the subject has changed since then.

Given that the challenge has a low participation bar, and given that the rewards are not extremely profitable, this actually seems like a small push to increase player participation during game events.

That’s fine by me, especially if you consider that Niantic is increasing the Pokémon spawns needed to complete the challenge during the Unova Celebration event. Of course, the spawn table can be increased in a very bad way, but hopefully that is not the case.

Casually optimistic about the feature – let’s see how it fits into upcoming events.
