The latest 2021 draft of the NFL, courtesy of the Draft Wire, will give Miami Dolphins fans something to chew on – these are not their stereotyped candidates mocked by the Dolphins. How much? The two-round simulation of the April draft features zero in the way for Alabama Crimson Tide players, a major departure from some of the mocks that see the Dolphins manage to secure 3 or even four Crimson Tide prospects in the first two rounds.
But keep an open mind, Miami! Here are the choices selected by Draft Wire in their latest 2021 NFL simulation draft to further help the Dolphins reload for a 2021 postseason.
General No. 3 – WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU
No. 18 overall – LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Notre Dame
No. 36 overall – OT Dillon Radunz, North Dakota
No. 50 overall – RB Javonte Williams, North Carolina
Chase is a possibility that some Dolphins fans have been irritated by the perception that he is very much the same type of receiver that Miami already had on the list – and Tua Tagovailoa struggled to do that job throughout this season. But he is a physically dynamic player and the rarest mix of athletic features among the best eligible candidates in this year’s class.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ defensive target is a hybrid player; this will go well with Brian Flores. But Miami needs better running defense skills, as well as more passing coverage from its linebackers. So while Owusu-Koramoah helps, he would not be the only addition necessary to offer Miami the necessary improvements to feel that the problem has been completely resolved.
In the second round, Miami wins two prospects that will undoubtedly help in the race of the game. Williams may be the best overall fit with what the Dolphins seem to want to do schematically. And Radunz is a small school mauler in the racing game; but its addition will pose some questions about what Miami will do with choosing the first round of 2020 Austin Jackson. Does he move to the right and push Robert Hunt to guard? Would Radunz change sides?
This flow of players offers help in the right places for Miami. But the team would still need to thread the needle to ensure the parts are applied correctly.
