Larry King: Jerry Seinfeld opens on the infamous 2007 interview

After Larry King’s death on Saturday, tributes to the legendary host and old interview clips began to flood social media – especially one in particular strange segment between King and comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

In the 2007 clip, King discusses the cancellation of “Seinfeld” after nine seasons.

“You gave up, right?” King asks Seinfeld. “They didn’t cancel you; you canceled them. ”

Seinfeld pauses and looks surprised before giving his answer.

“Aren’t you aware of that? Do you think I was canceled? ” he says. “I thought it was well documented.”

Seinfeld’s voice increases as he continues to speak: “I was the number one television program, Larry. You know who I am? … It’s a big difference between being canceled and being No. 1. ”

During the segment, King and Seinfeld criticize each other, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Did I hurt you, Jerry?” King says. … “Don’t most programs go down a bit?”

“Most people do that too,” says Seinfeld, later asking someone to evaluate his resume.

Since this interview aired, people have been debating whether Seinfeld was really upset or playing with King. According to HuffPost, the clip has already gone viral, appearing online with headlines like “Jerry Seinfeld Rips Larry King” and being referenced in the news over the years.

The comedian set the record on Saturday after King’s death at the age of 87.

“I’ve always loved Larry King and will miss him,” he wrote in Twitter. “The ‘canceled’ part was just me having fun with your little mistake. Nothing else. Or less.”

During 25 years of CNN’s “Larry King Live”, King interviewed a wide range of celebrities, from Marlon Brando to Lady Gaga to Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, according to Variety.

Preparations for the funeral and a memorial service will be announced later, according to Deseret News.
