Crystal Dynamics plans to unify Lara Croft’s two canonical schedules while the Tomb Raider franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary, the studio said in a Twitter video on Wednesday afternoon.
The official celebrations of Tomb Raider’s silver anniversary will begin on February 1, said Meagan Marie, community manager at Crystal Dynamics. Marie also pointed to the animated series Tomb Raider Netflix, announced Wednesday, which also fits into this official and unified timeline. The anime Tomb Raider takes place after the events of the video game reboot trilogy, which includes the 2013 one tomb Raider, 2015 Rise of the Tomb Raiderand 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Later, said franchise game director Will Kerslake, “We imagine a future for Tomb Raider unfolding after these established adventures” – referring to both games developed by Core Design (1996’s tomb Raider until 2003 Tomb Raider: the angel of darkness) and the series in the hands of Crystal Dynamics since 2006 Tomb Raider: Legend.
Although Crystal Dynamics has no major game announcements to make “in the near future,” the studio is “working to unify these timelines,” said Kerslake.
“With Tomb Raider’s extensive history, this is not an easy task, and we ask for your patience as we continue through the development process,” he added.
