Lancaster SC Chief of Police owns a bar that served alcoholic beverages for minors, says SLED

A bar owned by the Lancaster police chief in South Carolina, another Lancaster police officer and two others were cited for allegedly serving alcoholic beverages to customers under the age of 21.

Lancaster Chief of Police Scott Grant is co-owner of the LA Tap Room, along with Lieutenant Brenner Hartley (also from Lancaster police), Ace Blankenship and James Kenneth Blankenship Jr., reported Lancaster News.

Earlier this week, the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigated a complaint about alcohol being sold to minors in LA Taproom, SLED spokesman Tommy Crosby told FITSNews.

On February 1, co-owner James Kenneth Blankenship Jr. received a citation for serving alcohol to a person under the age of 21.

SLED also issued an administrative offense to the LA Tap Room for the crime of allowing the purchase of alcohol by a person under 21, Crosby told FITSNews.

Grant and his co-owners opened the LA Tap Room on Main Street in December 2020, Lancaster News reported.

When the owners announced the opening, Grant wrote on Facebook that there were “side comments” made in Lancaster about Grant and another police officer opening a bar in the city.

“I’m just going to ask this, if this community and the people of Lancaster are not a worthwhile investment, what the hell is it?” Grant wrote on Facebook. “We love this city. We both bleed for this city. We are this city. “

According to the online court records, James Kenneth Blankenship Jr. he was fined $ 470 for the violation. It was not immediately clear how much LA Taproom was fined.

FITSNews contacted Grant for comment and received no response at the time of publication.

Grant was appointed police chief in 2017.
