Emotions remain high, just as Chelsea’s situation remains dire, but in the cold light of day, Frank Lampard remains in office as well. It looks like he’s getting a chance to change things, to keep the 3-year project going halfway, to its lowest point.
Speaking to Chelsea TV after last night’s irritating, disappointing and listless defeat at King Power, where the difference between the two sides seemed as big as any in the last few years of decline, Lampard launched a public appeal to buy time to bring back the good times.
“I’m disappointed, I’m a Chelsea fan, I’m a Chelsea person, no matter what. So I’m disappointed because I want this team to do well. I want fans who are watching this or at home to be excited about the players we have […] as if we were a month ago [when] everyone was excited and [we were moving] in a positive direction. It is very different now. And I know how football can change quickly.
“So we are in the middle of the road, where, if we manage to add results – and it takes work, it takes work in training – in the next three home games that we have, the situation will change very quickly. And that will change for us very quickly. “
These three games include a fourth-round FA Cup tie against second division Luton Town over the weekend, and then consecutive league games before the end of the month against Wolverhampton and Burnley, two of the smaller and smaller teams still below of us at the table. Winning those games would certainly reduce the pressure on Lampard, even if it didn’t significantly increase our position in the league.
“But [we] I can’t shout about it. We have to bow our heads and work ”.

I do not know. We already tried that. Maybe we should try to scream.
