This has been the Ravens’ mantra about the five-game winning streak that brought Baltimore back into the playoffs. Jackson repeated “focus” and “submission” countless times.
“I would say I have matured. I think I have matured, but it is easy for me to say that,” said Jackson with a laugh.
It is easy to forget that Jackson is only 23, because he has had many successes at such a young age. But his teammates see a growing leader who will not be intimidated by his last playoff games.
“Definitely seeing him rise more as a captain, rise more as a player … keep the principal as the principal, no matter what,” said defensive veteran Brandon Williams. “He definitely continued to keep his composure and calm, his head level. He is a young quarterback and a young guy, but he is definitely playing as a vet – and leading as one too.”
“He is a different type of guy. His mentality, the way he thinks, that is not going to weigh him down or affect the way he plays in this game,” said tight end Mark Andrews. “He has big goals, we all have them. We are all excited for this game. He has a lot of teammates to help him. … This is a different team, with a different mentality.”
Of course, a lot has been put into Jackson for the Ravens’ first qualifiers in the past two years. It is the life of an NFL quarterback.
Coach John Harbaugh was asked on Wednesday about the feeling that Sunday’s game is especially important for Jackson.
“The playoff games are great. They are opportunities and it takes a lot to get to the playoffs,” said Harbaugh. “It takes too long; it takes a whole year of work to get back to the same place. So, this was not lost by anyone. [it’s] it is no different for Lamar than anyone else in this regard. “
The Ravens’ success in many ways depends on Jackson. But Baltimore isn’t going to put a lot of pressure on his quarterback, and neither is he. Asked what is different about this meeting with the Titans compared to the previous two times, Jackson said “our mentality”.
