Lady Eagles fall in South Carolina – The George-Anne Media Group

Offensive fights once again bring down GS

After a successful weekend at Eagle Round Robin, the Southern Georgia softball team hit the road on Wednesday to face No. 20 at the University of South Carolina.

The game against the Gamecocks is the first of four consecutive games against an opponent qualified for the Lady Eagles.

It was a complete domain from the beginning for Gamecocks. USC jumped to a 5-0 lead when the game entered the fifth entry.

A pair of Faith Shirley drove in the only Eagle race of the day when Mekhia Freeman crossed the board.

The Gamecocks scored four more races in the sixth round to extend the lead to a whopping eight races, which ended the game after just six entries.

The Lady Eagles managed just two strokes and left a total of four runners at the base.

On the defensive side, GS accumulated three costly mistakes and allowed 11 hits in the Gamecocks. Kyleigh Richardson had three races won, which caused his record to drop to 1-2 this season.

The defeat breaks the Lady Eagles’ record of 5-9 this season.

Things are not going to get any easier for GS this weekend, as they must travel to face Louisiana’s No. 14, which is currently at 13-4 this season.

The series will begin with a double round on Saturday. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 pm, followed by the second game at 4 pm. The end of Sunday’s series is scheduled to start at 1pm. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN +.
