Mayor Eric Garcetti announced on Sunday that the city’s vaccination sites will increase consultations for the first dose this week, administering a total of 88,000 vaccines at seven permanent sites and eight mobile clinics.
“Vaccines are our ticket to ending the pandemic, saving lives, rebuilding our communities and delivering hope for a healthier future,” said Garcetti. “We still have a long way to go to safely and quickly vaccinate as many Angelenos as possible – and a larger and more stable supply of doses this week means that we can bring relief to more seniors, essential and frontline workers, and anyone eligible to receive a vaccine in our city. “
The vaccine effort is led by the billionaire owner of the LA Times. Mekhalo Medina reported on NBC4 News on Sunday, March 7, 2021.
Last week, Garcetti said that Los Angeles has exceeded half a million doses administered in locations administered by the city, and this week’s expected delivery will allow those locations to offer nearly 68,000 consultations for the first dose, along with 20,000 consultations for the second dose.
Shipments include 54,000 doses of the Modern vaccine and 25,000 from Johnson & Johnson, distributed at locations in San Fernando Park, Hansen Dam, Crenshaw Christian Center, Lincoln Park, Pierce College, USC University Park and Dodger Stadium.
This week’s delivery from Johnson & Johnson is exceptional, as the authorities do not expect to receive more of the single-dose vaccine for a few weeks. In addition, the city expects the supply of all vaccines to be less in the coming weeks, at least until April.
Another delivery of 7,000 doses of Pfizer will be administered through the city’s Mobile Outreach for Vaccine Equity program. This week, employees will add an additional mobile unit to the rotation for a total of eight teams, who will serve vulnerable communities in Los Angeles, including South LA, East LA and San Fernando Valley, in neighborhoods like Boyle Heights, Green Meadows, Sylmar, Arleta and Glassell Park.
Officials said the MOVE program has administered more than 16,000 doses since its launch, with more than 90% of those vaccinated being people of color.
This week will also mark the inauguration of the city’s latest vaccination center on the USC University Park campus. The city’s sites will remain open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 8 am to 4 pm, with the exception of Dodger Stadium, which will operate from 8 am to 8 pm on Tuesday and from 8 am to 6 pm the rest of the week.
Locals in the city will offer second dose sessions this week for Angelenos who received their first dose in a city between February 8 and 15. Los Angeles has now started the automatic booking of second dose appointments weeks in advance for those who received their first dose on a city website.
Patients should note that the date stamped on the CDC vaccination cards received after the first dose is not an appointment confirmation. Instead, everyone must adhere to the appointment details provided by Carbon Health by email and / or text. Appointments for the first dose are available online at Coronavirus.LACity.org/VaxAppointment.
