Los Angeles County restaurants finally saw coronavirus restrictions eased on Friday, as establishments were allowed to reopen only for outdoor dining – but authorities have implemented new restrictions, including a ban on televisions.
According to the health ordinance issued by the municipality, televisions or other screens that transmit programming must remain off. The rule comes a week before the Super Bowl on February 7.

LA County Health Director Barbara Ferrer said on Wednesday that she is concerned that the giant sporting event, which usually takes crowds to bars and restaurants for celebrations and parties, will become a “super-sprawling” event.
“It will be tragic if the Super Bowl becomes the super spreader of the coronavirus,” said Ferrer, according to KTLA5. She added that residents should avoid large gatherings and refrain from throwing Super Bowl parties to prevent a situation in which the virus could spread further.
Ferrer emphasized the need for residents to continue to obey social detachment and mask recommendations, otherwise “we will be in the terrible position of needing to return again”.

Meals have been suspended in the county for nearly two months, while California faced a record number of positive cases and alarming rates of hospitalizations.
On Friday, LA County Health Officer Muntu Davis said that despite the reopening – considered a postponement for struggling companies that are forced to remain closed in the midst of the pandemic – LA County “is still seeing among 6,000 and 7,000 people tested positive for COVID-19 every day. “
“This is still a very high number of positive cases,” said Davis.

Restaurants cannot accommodate more than six people per table, all from the same family, and tables must be positioned at least 2.5 meters apart, according to the new guidelines.
Employees must wear a face shield and face mask at all times to interact with customers.
