LA County health officials are allowing restaurants to reopen outdoor dining this weekend, but have banned the use of televisions, thus avoiding Super Bowl parties.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Monday that he was suspending all regional requests to stay at home, reopening many of the state’s companies, although still with reduced capacity. LA County told restaurants this week that they can resume eating outdoors at 50% capacity, Fox 11 reported.
However, one thing that county officials are still discouraging is the meetings for the Super Bowl. On Wednesday, LA County Director of Public Health, Barbara Ferrer, warned NFL fans not to host the Super Bowl parties this year, for fear that they could become a “super propagator” event for the coronavirus.
Ferrer insisted that the Super Bowl parties are a bad idea this year, saying, “It will be tragic if the Super Bowl becomes a super spreader of the coronavirus.”
In the wake of Wednesday’s proclamation, Fox LA’s Bill Melugin reported that authorities put this moratorium on Super Bowl parties into action, telling restaurants that TVs should remain off.
“Outdoor dining has reopened in LA County as of today, but now the Department of Health is banning restaurants from having their TVs turned on for customers,” reported Melugin.
Melugin added that the new health department. orders say to restaurants: “Televisions or any other screens used to broadcast programming must be removed from the area or turned off. This provision is valid until further notice. “
The Fox reporter noted that officials want to “prevent people from watching the Super Bowl outdoors in sports bars / restaurants” But the ban can only send people to private homes during the game.
