The relationship between the Houston Texans and their star quarterback, Deshaun Watson, seems to have gone sour. The quarterback may have reached a breaking point and may contemplate a negotiation request if the situation does not improve.

Of course, this launched a flurry of speculation and commerce scenarios on social media, mainly by fans who believe their teams should be on the phones immediately trying to make some kind of deal with the Texans. This includes fans of the San Francisco 49ers, who, according to a recent survey, you may be willing to sacrifice the future for the chance to add a dynamic player like Watson.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Watson’s level of anger after an exchange that sent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona Cardinals last season was two. The quarterback’s discontent is on the rise now.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen adds that Watson might consider a switch to the Miami Dolphins, with Tua Tagovailoa and additional loot compensation directed at Texans.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reportedly had some conversations with NFL executives who think a deal between the Texans and the 49ers could happen if the situation with Watson “went nuclear”. This would involve quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and “several important choices” going to Houston in exchange for Watson (h / t for Patrick Tulini to find).

La Canfora notes that an exchange with the 49ers would take Watson out of the AFC and reunite Garoppolo with the new general manager of Texas, Nick Caserio, who was the personnel director for the players in New England when Garoppolo was drafted.

Of course, Garoppolo has a no-deal clause in his contract and would need to agree to any deal. The salary limit reached by Garoppolo’s separation is minimal compared to the average defender’s salary.
