Kuo: Apple will launch AirTags, first AR device, new AirPods and more in 2021

Realable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a comprehensive report today focused on what to expect from Apple in 2021. The analyst says Apple will launch its first augmented reality device in 2021, along with AirTag item trackers and more. .

AirTags have been rumored for more than a year, and despite several reports suggesting a launch, Apple remained silent about the fate of the accessory. However, Kuo duplicates the existence of AirTags in today’s report, suggesting that the long-awaited item tracker will be launched in 2021.

For those unfamiliar, AirTags are expected to be Apple’s competition for Tile item trackers. Users will be able to attach an AirTag tracker to something like a backpack and locate it in the Find My app on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Elsewhere, Kuo widely claims that Apple will launch some kind of augmented reality device in 2021. The details here are unclear, but Kuo said earlier that Apple’s first generation of AR glasses will depend heavily on the iPhone.

Kuo reported in the past that AR glasses will essentially function as a screen with only the real computing, rendering, Internet connectivity and location services coming from the iPhone in the user’s pocket.

As for the rest of the Apple product line, Kuo says that Apple will continue the transition to Apple Silicon on the Mac line in 2021. It will also transition to mini LED screens on the iPad Pro and Mac lines. The analyst said earlier that Apple will launch redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in 2021, both with mini LED screen technology and internal Apple Silicon.

Regarding the iPad, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is expected to be the first iPad to make the switch to mini-LED, with reports indicating that it could be announced sometime in the first quarter of 2021.

Kuo also corroborates that new AirPods are on the way in 2021. Rumors of the AirPods Pro Lite would replace the non-Pro AirPods of the Apple line. They would have a design similar or identical to the current AirPods Pro, which means they would be in-ear and would likely include different sizes of ear tips in the box.
