Kroger mistakenly distributed empty injections instead of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Midlothian store

MIDLOTHIAN, Virginia – Several empty shots were mistakenly fired at a Central Virginia Kroger to people who thought they were getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

CBS 6 Problem Solvers asked a spokesman about an error reported at the Midlothian site at 14101 Midlothian Turnpike.

Allison McGee, corporate affairs manager at Kroger Mid-Atlantic, said that one of Kroger’s “The Little Clinic” teams administered empty injections instead of the COVID-19 vaccine as an “honest mistake”. Earlier in the day, company officials said the team had administered injections of saline instead of the vaccine.

“This was dealt with immediately with the TLC team and all vaccinators were retrained and reminded of our current vaccination policies,” said McGee.

Kroger did not clarify exactly how many people were affected, but he told CBS 6 that it was a “small number of individuals”.

“All affected customers have been contacted and have now received the COVID-19 vaccine,” said McGee in a statement. “We apologize for this oversight and for the inconvenience caused to these customers.”

WTVR CBS 6 asked Kroger as an error like this happened, but we did not receive an answer to that question.
