Kristen Wiig’s ‘Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar’ premieres the first trailer

“Barb and Estrela go to Vista Del Mar”, a comedy by the duo behind “Bridesmaids”, is waiving its planned theatrical debut and will debut on premium video on demand platforms next month.

The Lionsgate film – starring Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo – will be available for rent at a premium price from February 12. Originally, it was scheduled to open in theaters on July 16, but the studio changed its release plans amid the pandemic.

“Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar” follows Wiig and Mumolo as lifelong best friends, who embark on the adventure of a lifetime when they decide to leave their small town in the Midwest for the first time to vacation in Florida. Leave the laughter, tears … and an evil villain who plans to kill everyone in the city.

In the first clip, released on Monday, Barb and Star celebrate their love for movie trailers. “I like how they are little films about another film before a different film,” Star tells Barb. If they had their own movie trailer, the women argue, they wouldn’t want to reveal anything about the film – especially their faces.

Well, Barb and Star fulfilled their wish. The trailer, set in Madonna’s “Vacation”, does not reveal any of their faces. But the two-minute teaser features shirtless men, Hawaiian prints, pirouettes, lots of sunscreen and a den of evil.

Josh Greenbaum directed the film from a screenplay by Wiig and Mumolo. The cast also includes Jamie Dornan, Damon Wayans Jr., Vanessa Bayer and Wendi McLendon-Covey.

Wiig and Mumolo received a screenplay Oscar nomination for “Bridesmaids”, the 2011 comedy starring Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy and Rose Byrne.
