A change was made to the schedule for Sunday’s WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match.

Kofi Kingston was added to the WWE Elimination Chamber match title, replacing The Miz. Drew McIntyre will defend his WWE championship against Kingston, Sheamus, Randy Orton, AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy in Sunday’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

The Miz, who owns the Money in the Bank briefcase, announced on Raw tonight that he would withdraw from the Elimination Chamber fight. The Miz wanted John Morrison to take his place, but Kingston approached WWE authority figure Adam Pearce and said he hoped Pearce was not taking Miz’s suggestion seriously. Pearce made a correspondence to decide who would replace Miz.

Kingston defeated Miz to take his place in the Elimination Chamber fight. If Miz won, Morrison would have been added to the game.

McIntyre was the guest on a Miz TV segment earlier this evening on Raw. It ended with McIntyre headbutting Miz and throwing Miz’s money in the bank folder towards the stage. Miz then announced that he was leaving the fight in the Elimination Chamber, saying that the Money in the Bank portfolio means he was not under the same pressure as McIntyre. Miz said there are so many things that can go wrong for the Elimination Chamber participants, but he just needs one thing to go right.

Miz said that – whether he makes money in his Elimination Chamber briefcase or not – he wants everyone who competes in the WWE Championship or Universal Championship to be on the lookout. Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin will also face off in an Elimination Chamber on Sunday, with the winner fighting for the Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship later in the evening.

An Elimination Chamber match was part of Kingston’s path to winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 in 2019. Kingston lasted until the end of that year’s WWE Championship Elimination Chamber before being defeated by Daniel Bryan. Kingston won the Bryan title at WrestleMania.

Kingston returned to the ring at Raw last week after being out of action for more than a month due to a jaw injury.
