Koei Tecmo sues unauthorized dead or alive DVD seller

Koei Tecmo announced that it has filed actions against an unidentified suspect who made and sold an unauthorized DVD containing modified materials from the Dead or alive Series. [Thanks, Famitsu.]

The suspect was noted for having recorded images from several games, including Dead or Alive Xtreme: Vacations on Venus. Other changes were made to the filming, such as removing the character’s clothes. The results were compiled on a DVD, which was sold on an auction site.

Despite the character changes, Koei Tecmo still saw this as a malicious violation of its copyright and reported the case to the Kanagawa Prefecture Police Department. The company intends to open a criminal and civil case against the suspect; the latter to demand restitution caused by copyright infringement by replicating and distributing the company’s creations without authorization.

O Dead or alive series originated as a fighting game. The last title of the main line, Dead or Alive 6, released simultaneously worldwide for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on March 1, 2019. The series is also known for extreme spinoffs, which mainly feature female characters from the games. The continuous Dead or Alive Xtreme: Vacations on Venus has been adding even more new original characters, like Monica and Loberia.
