We have heard many new leaks and rumors related to a possible remake or sequence of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic over the past month. Although none of these rumors have been fully confirmed yet, given the large number of them that have emerged, it is logical that there is some precision in what is circulating. Now, even more information has emerged that gives us an idea of how long this new KOTOR apparently is in progress.
Identified by Reddit u / mtol115 user Aspyr, who is the studio that is supposedly working on this new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game, appears to have brought in a variety of previous members of the BioWare team in 2019. The user found that about 20 former BioWare developers are currently working at Aspyr. Although some of these former BioWare employees have been with Aspyr for some time, others ended up entering key positions in the studio in 2019.

As a whole, this information seems to suggest that the new iteration of Knights of the old republic it’s probably been in development since 2019. Typically, when studios start working on new projects of this type, they bring on board a variety of new hires at once. The fact that so many developers from another prominent studio working mainly on RPGs joined Aspyr in 2019 seems to suggest that the game has been in production of some kind ever since.
Depending on the scope of this new remake / sequence of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, this news can tell us a few things about when to expect the game. Most AAA game releases tend to see periods of development lasting between three and five years on average. As such, a launch for this new KOTOR game in 2021 seems quite unlikely as a result.
That said, it seems possible that we may see another resurgence in the series in another way this year. Other rumors in recent weeks have suggested that Aspyr is also working to port the first two Knights of the old republic games for modern consoles at some point later in 2021. Again, we still don’t know if this is entirely true, but considering how many other Star Wars games have been ported in recent years, it is extremely plausible.
