Klete Keller, Olympic gold medalist, accused of connection to Capitol riot

Keller was accused of intentionally entering or staying in any restricted building or land without legal authority, violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol lands and obstructing law enforcement involved in official duties in civil disorder, according to documents filed with the District Court of the United States. Court documents also say the research showed that Keller was identified by media outlets as SwimSwam, which covers competitive swimming.

FBI special agent Matthew R. Barofsky wrote in court documents that he confirmed Keller’s identity by comparing the photos in which he had his Colorado driver’s license.

Capitol photos also show that Keller is wearing a US Olympic Team jacket and “appears to be one of the tallest individuals,” writes Barofsky in his statement of facts. Keller is 6 feet and 6 inches tall.

In a statement, USA Swimming told CNN: “We respect the rights of private individuals and groups to protest peacefully, but in no way do we tolerate the actions taken by those on Capitol Hill last week.”

The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee said it condemned the demonstrators’ actions.

“We support the right to protest peacefully and to express values ​​and views in a respectful and lawful manner – this is what makes our democracy strong. Unfortunately, that is not what happened in this case, ”said the organization in a statement.
