King of monsters may have a secret Biollante Easter egg

An Easter egg for the Heisei series Toho Biollante may have been hidden in a newspaper article in the credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

A Biollante Easter egg may have been hidden in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film’s credits were packed with newspaper articles that revealed all sorts of provocations for the future. There was even a reference to Godzilla’s robotic counterpart, Mechagodzilla.

In 1989, Toho launched Godzilla x Biollante, which became the second film in the Heisei series after 1984 Return from Godzilla. In the sequence, the King of the Monsters had to face Biollante, who at the time was the largest creature that Godzilla had ever encountered. This plant-like beast was created by a scientist who combined a rose with Godzilla’s cells and the DNA of his deceased daughter. After starting out as a giant rose, the creature gradually evolved into Biollante, which served as an incredibly challenging opponent for Godzilla. Due to its highly regenerative nature, it proved difficult to kill, but was defeated in the end. After going into space, she never made another appearance on Godzilla franchise.

One line found in King of the Monsters’ credits was reminiscent of Biollante. The article entitled “Monarch Increases Forces around Skull Island” explained some of the activities Monarch was involved in Skull Island. The source of the article was a scientist named De La Rosa. According to De La Rosa, Monarch worked on a “mechanized giant”And also made attempts to create“Organic Titans.”This line can be much more than just a nod to Mechagodzilla, especially considering the fact that Biollante was a genetically modified monster that fits the description of aOrganic Titan.”What strengthens the connection with Toho kaiju is the name of the scientist. The Spanish translation of “De La Rosa” is “da rosa”, which is directly related to Biollante’s origin story in the Heisei series.

It may just be a big coincidence, or it may be that the allusion to Toho kaiju was intentional. If it was included on purpose, it’s worth wondering if it will result in anything. Of course, it is always possible that the line was only in the film to honor a beloved monster Toho (who also happens to be a favorite of King of monsters director Mike Dougherty). But it is important to note that the provocation of the film Mechagodzilla is at least about to become much more than an Easter egg. Its presence in Godzilla vs. Kong was spoiled by a toy leak. So, all things considered, it seems plausible that MonsterVerse might end up doing something with its Biollante reference at some point in the future as well.

Based on King of the Monsters’ post-credit scene with Jonah (Charles Dance) buying Ghidorah’s severed head, it looks like Biollante may be where the franchise is going Godzilla 3. Dougherty has already made it clear that Jonas’ plans for Ghidorah’s head are linked to its regenerative properties. Regeneration was Biollante’s greatest skill in his 1989 film. This means that the head’s purpose may not have been to establish Ghidorah’s return, but the birth of MonsterVerse’s Biollante.
