Kim Kardashian West filed for divorce from her husband Kanye West, his aide confirmed to CBS News on Friday. The reality show star and Grammy-winning hip-hop artist had long been said to be ending their six-year marriage.
The two were married in a ceremony in 2014 in Italy after the birth of their first daughter, North, 7, and had three more children: Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 1. It was Kardashian’s third wedding, whose first marriage was to producer Damon Thomas and the second to basketball player Kris Humphreys, and the first to West.
The news comes after a tumultuous year for the couple. West, 43, announced in July via Twitter what turned out to be a disorganized campaign for the presidency, a move he had been playing with for years. He was quickly criticized for accepting millions in federal stimulus funding for his clothing and tennis business, Yeezy.
After making controversial statements at a campaign rally in South Carolina and tweeting a series of nightly remarks addressed to his wife, Kardashian introduced himself to discuss his ongoing struggles against bipolar disorder.

“Anyone who has [bipolar disorder] or have a loved one in your life who knows how complicated and painful it is to understand, “Kardashian wrote on Instagram at the time.” I never spoke publicly about how it affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to their health. “
In September, Kardashian, 40, and her family announced the end of their long-running reality show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians”, whose last season is set to open next month.
Kardashian turned to advocacy during the last presidential administration. She lobbied the Trump White House on criminal justice reform and helped win the Alice Johnson’s release in 2018, visiting the White House last March to continue its efforts. She said she is studying for Become a lawyer. Her father, Robert Kardashian, was a criminal defense lawyer who once represented OJ Simpson and died in 2003.
The two did not comment publicly on the split.
