Kevin Spacey posted a Christmas-themed video on YouTube, marking the third year in a row that he shares clips on his channel. This year’s video, entitled “1-800 XMAS,” was a darker subject than in previous years, offering compassion to people who struggle during the holiday season.
“If you are in a place that can no longer stand, if you are suffering, if you need help, if you feel guilty or ashamed, if you are struggling with your identity, if you are against the wall, or if you feel that there is no way for you, whatever your situation, I promise there is a way, ”he said. “At this point, during this holiday and beyond, even if you don’t feel it, there are people out there who understand and can help, because you are not alone.”
The videos started in 2018 amid criminal charges that Spacey faced for the alleged sexual assault of an 18-year-old man in Massachusetts in 2016. In the original video, he uses the character of Frank Underwood – who was killed in “House of Cards” – to apparently deal with being removed from the program and allegations of sexual assault.
“All of that presumption led to such an unsatisfactory ending and thinking it could have been such a memorable farewell,” he said in the 2018 video. “I can promise you this: if I didn’t pay the price for the things we both know I did, I certainly won’t pay the price for the things I didn’t do. ”
The specific criminal charges handled in the video turned out to be favorable to Spacey. The accusing party invoked the Fifth Amendment rights and the prosecution dropped the charges as a result.
The second video, just over a minute long and also loaded on Christmas Eve, presents Spacey once again wishing viewers a Merry Christmas.
Spacey has been absent on social media, in addition to these annual Christmas videos, since actor Anthony Rapp accused him of making sexual advances when Rapp was just 14 years old. Spacey received reactions on Twitter and other social media platforms for using the moment to go out like a gay man and suggesting that if he assaulted Rapp, it was the result of “inappropriate drunken behavior”.
He has faced several legal battles over alleged unwanted sexual advances since 2017, with the latest charge of 2019 – made by a masseuse – coming to an end after the accuser died and his estate dropped the charges.
