Kevin Hart is joining Cate Blanchett in the cast of “Borderlands”, a film adaptation of the popular video game.
Hart will play Roland, a skilled ex-soldier who became a mercenary, in the Lionsgate film. Eli Roth, whose resume includes “The house with a clock on its walls” and Bruce Willis’ action thriller “Death Wish”, is directing “Borderlands”.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” said Roth. “’Borderlands’ is a different kind of role for him, and we look forward to thrilling the audience with a side of Kevin that they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an incredible Roland. “
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Nathan Kahane adds: “Kevin is behind some of the biggest box office hits in the world, and our source material is inspired by one of the best selling video games in the world. We love the way our film crew adapted this story and we couldn’t be in better creative hands. “
Although the plot details have been kept secret, “Borderlands” is based on the RPG shooting game released in 2009. The game, which spawned several sequels, takes place on the planet of Pandora. Craig Mazin, who created the acclaimed HBO miniseries “Chernobyl”, wrote the final draft of the script.
Hart recently ended production on Sony’s action comedy “The Man From Toronto”, also starring Woody Harrelson and Kaley Cuoco. In early 2020, he filmed a drama entitled “Parenthood”. A certified box office draw, Hart’s recent big-screen credits include “Jumanji: The Next Level”, “The Secret Life of Pets 2”, “The Upside” and “Night School”. His films, including “Ride Along” and “Central Intelligence”, generated more than $ 4 billion combined in global ticket sales.
