Entertainment Tonight presenter Kevin Frazier suggested that several prominent black women in Hollywood unite to help Sharon Osbourne “learn” about race.
The shot backfired for him in a spectacular way.
Frazier interviewed Osbourne on Tuesday about the consequences of his explosive discussion on the air with his co-host of “The Talk”, Sheryl Underwood, who watched the show go down due to an investigation.
He posted a photo of the chat on Instagram, featuring Osbourne and Underwood, as well as former “Talk” host Holly Robinson Peete – who accused Osbourne of calling her a “ghetto” – and the actress and outspoken advocate of justice racial Amanda Seales. He also tagged Meghan Markle, who was the subject of the ardent exchange with Underwood, and “Bachelor” presenter Chris Harrison, who is involved in his own racial scandal.
He suggested that they have a “summit”, saying, “At some point we will all have to get to a point where we can sit together and have a tough talk about running. I don’t know what will happen next with Sharon Osbourne, but I know it’s time for a meaningful conversation, a time for learning. She is ready. “
Osbourne liked the post, but it was not well accepted by several black actresses, including the “Insecure” star Seale.
“You must be crazy. How about you put your energy into providing a safe space for those on the show who were terrified by their rampant racism / classism / xenophobia, ”she replied.
Frazier countered: “I’ve been doing this for years … I wanted to hear your opinion, that’s why I tagged you, respect your opinion, I’m not trying to get into a fight”.
“Well, you missed the target this time, BROTHA,” said Seales.
Meanwhile, Sherri Shepherd sarcastically said that “she must have missed” Osbourne’s “public apologies” to Underwood and another former host Julie Chen Moonves, whom she was accused of calling “wonton” and “slender eyes”, which Osbourne deny it. Shepherd added, “Don’t think Sharon is even close to being ready.”
Frazier ended up deleting the post. On Wednesday, he tried to clarify his intentions. “I was suggesting that there was a place, in the mainstream, where people (like Sheryl and Holly) could really express their feelings without being silenced or gagged (and I can say that there were people who worked to silence Hollys [sic] after she left), ”he said.
Peete, who believes Osbourne may have contributed to her being fired from the program in 2011, appreciated the follow-up post.
“Thank you for recognizing the way I was treated after being dismissed from ‘The Talk’ in such an unnecessary and petty way. Sharon was part of that. She knows this. It doesn’t matter what she says. Now everything is being revealed and I don’t think she is close to being ‘ready’ for any kind of responsibility. That is just my opinion, ”she said.
Seales, on the other hand, re-posted his original post and told him to: “Cut kumbaya tactics. It is so easy to protect black women. “
“It is not the responsibility of blacks to educate whites about how they cannot be rubbish. Ok they [bleeping] invented racism. Because the [bleep] we have to teach you how not to be racist, ”she said in a five-minute video. “Expecting us to do that and, as a black person, trying to attract people to this space is … foolish and also doesn’t respect our time and energy.”
She added that Underwood and Robinson Pete were “victims of this woman’s racist bullshit” and said, “So basically, are you asking the victims to come and have a good meeting with their attacker, so that this bitch can feel better?” No, we are not on the white rehabilitation train. ”
