Kevin Feige shows Marvel’s future at Disney +

Marvel boss Kevin Feige gave TV critics a unique view of the MCU’s future at Disney + today during the Television Critics Association Winter 2021 Tour. Critics took a peek at two important scenes from the upcoming Disney + series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and news including the release date of Loki. However, the real draw of the day was a 25-minute question and answer session with Feige himself. Marvel Studios President and Marvel Creative Director responded to press inquiries and gave insight into where the future of TV MCU goes beyond WandaVision.

In front of the panel, critics were allowed to show two clips of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, debuting at Disney + March 19. The larger of the two was an almost nine-minute aerial action sequence showing Anthony Mackie’s Falcon unleashing a slightly more brutal fighting style than we saw at the MCU before. The other clip revealed that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will continue the WandaVision theme of investigating the trauma of the MCU heroes. In this case, James “Bucky” Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is dealing with his past as the Winter Soldier and the anomie of being, uh, a World War II veterinarian / brainwashed HYRDRA killer / Blip victim / alone in 2021 without your son Steve.

Critics were allowed to share their first impressions without spoiler of the clips before the panel started.

Also revealed before Feige’s Q&A? The release date for Loki. The Tom Hiddleston Marvel series will premiere on Disney + on June 11, 2021.

Perhaps the biggest news that came out of the panel was the confirmation that some of the Disney + programs currently in production are being made with second seasons in mind. Feige started the panel with a summary of where they are in relation to production. He was talking about the set of Mrs. Marvel and noticed that Hawkeye is also in production. Feige shared this She-Hulk, starring Tatiana Maslany, starts shooting in a matter of weeks and Moon Knight not long after that. However, he has not confirmed which of these programs are being designed specifically for the coming seasons.

“Some of the programs that I mentioned and that we are about to start filming, we are having in mind a structure that would lead to the 2nd and 3rd seasons in a more direct way than a show like WandaVision, which clearly enters an appeal. But it’s new, ”said Feige. “Maybe one day we can design five seasons for a show. But we are really focusing on offering the best seasons we can, one at a time so far.

When asked about the possibility of a WandaVision Second season, Feige said, “I’ve been at Marvel for a long time to say no to anything.” However, he added that WandaVision was designed to feed Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Elizabeth Olsen is currently filming this film in London.

On the other hand, some characters featured in the Disney + programs, such as Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), intended to advance to the MCU films; namely Captain Marvel 2. When asked if there was concern that the proliferation of Marvel shows and films would make it difficult for new viewers to reach, Feige joked that he cared about everything. Well, except for one thing.

“One thing that doesn’t concern me anymore is Teyonah Parris,” he said. But Feige admitted that with more shows and more films, it becomes increasingly difficult for them to win new fans. However, he later shared that the master plan is for every MCU show and movie to live on Disney + for fans to find out.

Feige was also asked about the past of Marvel’s television shows. When asked what makes these new Disney + programs “more successful” than previous series, such as Marvel’s SHIELD agents or Jessica Jones, he rejected the question.

“I think there are legions of SHIELD agents. fans and Reckless fans and Jessica Jones fans and Luke Cage fans who would disagree with you in terms of success or not. There is a very large fan base for these programs, ”said Feige. Although he also said that he had no control over these series. “But it all comes down to a different team and a different team of storytellers telling stories in a different way.”

When asked if he potentially would like to use characters that previously belonged to Netflix, such as Jessica Jones, in future MCU stories, he said, “I think we probably could.” Feige said that everything was right. When pressed about whether Marvel characters currently had the rights could appear in future projects, Feige did not comment directly.

“No, I will just say that there are often rumors that are true and there are often rumors that are not. It was really fun to have Clark Gregg coming back to the MCU in Captain Marvel, a founding and important member of the MCU for us, Agent Coulson. But everything else, we just have to see it, ”said Feige.

Feige also shared that the inspiration for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier came to watch the stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in Captain America Civil War. “From the diaries of Civil war, watching them interact with each other … if we had the opportunity, we would watch a complete program [of that]. ”He also clarified that Anthony Mackie’s description of the series as an” eight-hour movie “was incorrect, as the show’s six-episode run time is not” exactly eight hours. “

Falcon and Winter Soldier shake hands

One thing that Feige doesn’t think will happen? A Marvel show rated for minors. Feige said with the exception of Dead Pool, that came to them with an R rating, everything they do is for “kids and adults”. It does not necessarily envision Marvel telling a story that would be made exclusively for adult viewers. “We were able to tell all kinds of stories we wanted with the tone and classifications we have now,” said Feige.

When asked about Fox’s Quicksilver thought process Evan Peters as “Pietro” in WandaVision, Feige just shared that the decision was made early in the development process as a way for “’certain people’” to be playing with people. ”“ Certain people ”being the subject of“ summer song ”.

The penultimate episode of WandaVision debut this Friday. The Hawk and the Winter Soldier opens on March 19, 2021. Loki will be released on Disney + on June 11, 2021, followed by the animated series What If? After that, wait for the launch order to be Mrs. Marvel, followed by Hawkeye, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight.
