EXCLUSIVE: After writing Strange doctor in the multiverse of madness and serving as principal writer and executive producer for the upcoming Disney Plus series Loki, Michael Waldron wants to stay in business with Walt Disney Studios in style. Sources say Waldron’s expiration date has been set to write a new Star Wars feature film that Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and creative director of Marvel will develop and produce for Lucasfilm and Disney. This is only part of the recent deal that Waldron signed with the studios that will keep him in business with Disney for some time.
Disney declined to comment.
In addition to writing this new Star Wars movie, the deal should also bring Waldron back in some capacity for the second season of Loki. Not only is the rarity of business in the studios, but it clearly shows how much faith Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm have in Waldron going forward and will certainly open doors in the years to come and many other high profile properties.

This is the first news about Feige’s Star Wars film since the project’s first rumor in autumn 2019. Lucasfilm recently announced several films on Disney’s Investor Day, including Rogue Squad with Patty Jenkins, but this was not one of them.
The project was first announced after the success of Avengers: Endgame and before launch Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, the last installment in the biggest franchise trilogy. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was looking to start a new era of Star Wars films and considering Feige’s love for the franchise and how he mastered the Marvel cinematic universe in the last decade, he felt the perfect fit to lead a new feature on the beloved IP.
As Waldron has just been released, there is no idea when this film will go into production or in front of the audience, but the attachment to Waldron adds momentum to the development of the film.
As for Waldron, he is an Emmy-winning screenwriter, creating and acting as a principal writer and executive producer for Marvel and Disney + ‘ Loki series, and is currently writing the Marvel book Strange doctor in the multiverse of madness for Sam Raimi. He created and executive produces Starz’s upcoming wrestling drama Heels. He started his career at Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty where he won an Emmy for his work as a writer and producer in season 4.
