Kevin Feige explains why they launched Evan Peters Mercury instead of Aaron Taylor-Johnson

One of Marvel’s biggest surprises WandaVision was the arrival of Pietro Maximoff in the fifth episode, “On a Very Special Episode …” played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the character was in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but by Evan Peters, the actor who brought Quicksilver to life in the X-Men films. Since then, it has been revealed that this “Pietro” may not be the real deal – last week’s episode revealed that Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) is really Agatha Harkness and has been pulling the strings all along – and it turns out that it is part of the reason why series was with Peters instead of Taylor-Johnson.

During the Disney + TCA presentation on Wednesday, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said that the decision to bring Peters instead of Taylor-Johnson came at the very beginning of the development process and then explained that this is all part of how “certain people” are messing with Wanda.

“This is one of the fun things about developing these things or making the sky blue in the rooms,” said Feige (via The wrap) “My favorite part of the process is always the beginning, when we find out what something could be, and at the end, when we are refining it and putting it in the world. So, there were all kinds of discussions, but I believe we ended up going with what you saw it relatively early in the development process. It’s just another way that certain people were playing with Wanda. “

And last week’s “Breaking the Fourth Wall”, the seventh episode of the series, revealed that someone was actually messing with Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and using “Pietro” to do that. The episode saw Agnes turn out to be Agatha and a montage showed viewers what “Agatha was all along” had been, complete with a catchy theme song – a theme song that spawned many fan covers and creative remixes. Of course, there are still many theories suggesting that Agatha may not be WandaVision’s greatest evil. There are many theories that suggest that Mephisto or Nightmare may still be behind everything and even some theories that Mercury may actually be Chthon. Fans will just have to wait for the last two episodes to find out.

The first seven episodes of WandaVision are now broadcasting on Disney +.
