Kentucky Wildcats vs. South Carolina Basketball: Who wins?

The Kentucky Wildcats may win 9th position on Saturday, but not the 9th position that they expected to be at stake with the end of the season.

The UK will host the South Carolina Gamecocks at the end of the 2020-21 regular season and will try to end the season with nine wins in total.

The Cats and Gamecocks were scheduled to play on December 29 in what would have been the SEC opening for each team, but the game was postponed due to problems with COVID-19 in South Carolina.

Frank Martin’s Gamecocks have been impacted as much as anyone in the country by COVID, which made this season a challenge, as they will arrive at Rupp Arena with a 6-13 record and a 4-11 conference mark.

South Carolina defeated the United Kingdom last season with a buzzer-beater in Columbia and won two of the past three previous fights between the two programs. Gamecocks have not recently won at the Rupp Arena, however. His last victory at Lexington came in 2009, during the final year of the Billy Gillispie era.

While a victory over Gamecocks does not help Cats build an NCAA Tournament curriculum, it can move them to a position in the SEC Tournament ranking. They are currently classified as the eighth seed and cannot go up any further. With a victory or defeat combined with defeats from the State of Mississippi to Auburn and Georgia to Alabama, they secured eighth place.

They can also drop a position or two with a loss, Mississippi State win over Auburn and Georgia lose to Alabama, they would be the nine seedlings and with a loss and win for both Mississippi State and Georgia, they would be the 10 seeds.

Will Kentucky win and catch the eighth seed? Or will they fall and risk a drop in the SEC’s final rating?
