Kentucky vs. Texas canceled due to positive cases within the UK program

BREAKING NEWS. Tomorrow’s game against Texas is canceled. Kentucky just announced that the game was canceled due to positive cases in the Kentucky program. Kentucky is now on a 48-hour break. Here is the press release:

Kentucky’s men’s basketball program was put on a 48-hour break, including canceling Saturday’s game against Texas, due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracking and subsequent quarantine of individuals within the program. The decision is consistent with the management requirements for the Southeastern Conference’s COVID-19 and UK Athletics COVID-19.

The SEC’s COVID-19 management requirements, developed by the SEC’s Return to Activity Task Force and Medical Guidance, are available at SECsports.com (PDF). The health and safety of Wildcat student-athletes, coaches and employees remains the number one priority for UK Athletics.

Ticket holders in the UK will receive further communications by email, including if additional changes are made to Kentucky’s schedule during the season. Given the unusual nature of this season – specifically, the current unknowns related to postponed games being rescheduled or canceled games being replaced – UK Athletics appreciates the continued support, flexibility and understanding of its ticket holders. For games that are canceled and not rescheduled, UK Athletics will evaluate the credit and refund options for the part of the ticket payment at the end of the season.

This is the first cancellation of the season for Kentucky. The UK’s previously scheduled games against Detroit Mercy and South Carolina have been postponed due to the COVID-19 security protocols within those programs. The replacement dates for these games have not been determined.
