Kennedy Expressway crash and escape: 3 IDOT workers injured on I-90, Harlem accident near Chicago’s Norwood Park, says Illinois State Police

CHICAGO (WLS) – Three Illinois Department of Transportation workers were injured in an accident on the Kennedy Expressway on Thursday morning, the Illinois State Police said.

The accident occurred around 1:40 am on the Kennedy side of Harlem Avenue, near the Northwest Side of Norwood Park in Chicago, police said. IDOT workers were placing cones for a lock and were inside their work vehicle with flashing lights when they were hit in the back by a driver in a gray car, police said. The impact took the IDOT truck off the road.

The driver ran out of the scene, leaving the car behind, police said. Authorities know who the suspect is, but have not yet found her on Thursday morning.

The three workers were transported to the hospital and are expected to be fine, according to authorities.

It was not clear on Thursday whether the driver was speeding or what may have caused the accident.

The police also did not provide identifying information about the workers or the person who assaulted them.

The expressway was closed for investigation and reopened at around 2:30 am
