Appearing as a guest on the late-night show on Friday, the former senior adviser shared her opinion on Trump’s time in office, while Maher mentioned the fact that many people died during his administration.
Kellyanne Conway vehemently defended President Trump and his legacy when she appeared as a guest in Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday.
“How do you look back, four years later, did something go wrong?” Maher asked Trump’s former senior adviser right away. “A lot has worked out and he will be remembered for that,” replied Conway. She acknowledged that the violent events that occurred at the US Capitol were “vulgar” and later referred to the government as “confused”.
Maher scolded her about the fact that she did not publicly acknowledge Biden’s victory in the election until December 4, weeks after his victory was projected, although Conway was unsure of the exact date when the public recognition took place.
“The real disappointment for people like me is that the past two months have not been spent mainly talking about achievements,” she continued, citing the improvements she believes Trump has made in corporate tax rates, the poverty rate, wages, manufacturing , the increase in jobs in the energy sector. “He rebuilt the military,” she told Maher. Conway later emphasized how Trump is the first modern president “not to take us to war” and that “many lessons” can be learned in his term.
In Maher’s previous monologue, he called Trump’s impeachment a second time “historic”. “It is like the vaccine, you need two doses and there are still no guarantees,” joked the host in the morning.
Speaking to Conway, Maher said that one of the lessons learned is that we should not give grace to “crazy people” when they are in power. Conway referred to a lunch she had with Trump before Christmas, where they talked about the stimulus package, her legacy and the future. Although Conway left the White House in August, Maher called her an “advocate” as if she were still working for them. “You can’t deny that many people are better off,” said Conway of how Trump left the economy. “They are not better off now, many of them are dead,” said Maher.
Towards the end of the interview, Maher noted that no president is entirely true, but that Trump lied “much more” than most. Conway – who helped direct Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016 and was one of her senior advisers for the longest time – noted that she saw him being very compassionate towards people. They continued to disagree whether Trump “insults” others.
Conway, who tested positive for COVID-19 in October and had mild symptoms, said he looked at “the good that was done” while Trump was in office, and noted that the government tends to be “confused”. She talked about how Trump supporters thought they had more visibility and a voice, adding that his legacy and the policies he initiated “will survive much of it.”
