Kelly Dodd blames social media mistakes for ‘canceling culture’

Kelly Dodd is no stranger to the controversy, but she hated being a “victim” of the so-called “cancellation culture”.

“Kelly, it was so disappointing to see you call the protesters looters,” was a question from fans relayed by Andy Cohen during the “Real Housewives of Orange County” meeting on Wednesday night. “As a Mexican American, don’t you think you have a responsibility to support your marginalized communities?”

“Listen, I have nothing to do with protests … Peaceful protests – I’m all about it,” Dodd, 45, replied. “But it was on a totally different level that I saw in New York. There were looting. Buildings were on fire and I don’t think that’s the way to protest. “

Cohen, 52, started bringing up Dodd’s next social media mistake in 2020: posting a photo on his bridal shower wearing a hat that said “Drunk wives matter”. Asked if she understood why people were upset, Dodd said the hat was two years old and a gift.

“There were a lot of drunk wives at the party,” said Elizabeth Lyn Vargas, with Dodd explaining that it was not to mock the Black Lives Matter movement.

Dodd allowed her to see how the hat could have offended people after Braunwyn Windham-Burke pushed it, before going on the offensive.

“I was not being malicious and I was attacked by this culture of cancellation which is a bunch of haters who would never have a voice and here they are gathering and [coming] after me, ”she said.

“But they are not just haters. It’s the people who were oppressed, ”interrupted Windham-Burke, 43.

“Four of my best friends are African Americans and they were not offended,” shouted Dodd, adding: “It was the whites who did it!”

Dodd also reaffirmed that she is black, but does not identify herself as black.

At the start of the episode, Dodd’s 28-person marriage to Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal became a similar point of contention when she told Cohen that she had a pandemic wedding.

“I’m glad I did that because nobody got sick and it was beautiful,” she said.

Cohen then read a question from a fan asking women if they found Dodd’s marriage irresponsible.

“It wouldn’t be necessarily irresponsible if everyone took the test,” replied Vargas.

“But is it okay to protest?” Dodd interrupted. “Can everyone protest and be among a billion people? But can’t I have a celebratory wedding? “

It is not clear whether the Windham-Burke and Dodd drama will unfold in the next season of “RHOC”, as Dodd said he would leave the series if the first made his comeback.
