She also thanked the only star who was kind and offered some wise advice.
Kelly Clarkson may be one of the most respected names in the music industry today, but it clearly hasn’t always been the case.
During an interview with Jennifer Love Hewitt on her daily talk show, Clarkson talked about other cruel people who were the spotlight for her while she was just an “American Idol” competitor in 2002. She also took a moment to personally thank “- 1-1 “actress for her words of support during a casual encounter at the time.
“You probably don’t remember that, but you’ve been with me for so long, almost 20 years now,” Clarkson told his guest. “It was at some kind of MTV Awards, VMAs or something, I don’t know what it was, but you ran up to me. It was right in the three ‘Idol’ finals, we were so devastated and everything was happening in a whirlwind and people were really mean to us because we are from a talent show and it was the first season. “
“Everyone was so rude to us, like on the carpet, at the show. It was so bad, it was a horrible experience, ”said Kelly.
“[But] you came to me, came running out of nowhere and said, ‘My God, I’m really rooting for you,’ “Clarkson recalled, before revealing the advice that Hewitt gave that she really took seriously.

“You told me, ‘Please keep those you love so close. It will end up being some people in your life, unfortunately, but this business can be very difficult. And remember to keep those people who really love you. ‘”
“You just gave me this advice that was really kind at a time so cruel to me, personally, so thank you very much,” she told Hewitt. “It meant a lot to me, you were so nice and I’m looking forward to interviewing you.”
Clarkson, of course, ended up winning that first season of “Idol” and became one of the show’s most successful stars.
