Kelly Clarkson recalls the days of ‘American Idol’: ‘People were really mean to us’

Kelly Clarkson may be a hugely successful recording artist, but that doesn’t mean she has always had an easy life.

During the Thursday episode of her popular daytime TV talk show, the 38-year-old star opened up about entering the limelight via “American Idol” in 2002, when she was crowned the show’s inaugural champion in a chat. chat with actress Jennifer Love Hewitt.

The singer recalls meeting Hewitt, 41, when Clarkson was first entering the scene with some of her fellow competitors.

“It was so bad. It was a horrible experience,” admitted Clarkson, but the interaction with Hewitt helped to ease the pain.

“You came to me and came running out of nowhere and said, ‘My God, I’m really rooting for you,'” recalled the star. “You said to me, ‘Please keep those you love so close and it will end up being about some people in your life, unfortunately, but this business can be very difficult and just remember to keep those people who really love you. . “
