Kelly Clarkson about what she wished she had never told her daughter

Navigating her way through parenting is a complicated business, and Kelly Clarkson recently shared how she is learning to deal with some difficult questions from her children.

On her talk show on Friday, the original “American Idol” champion spoke about an exchange she had with her daughter River, after the 6-year-old asked some questions about pregnancy and death.

Her comments came after someone in the audience asked if she had ever said something to her children that she wished she hadn’t said.

“My daughter was obsessed when she was 4 years old about where she came from,” said Clarkson. “And then she started to get nervous about death. I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ “

Clarkson, who was accompanied on her program by podcast hosts #IMOMSOHARD, Jen Smedley and Kristin Hensley, dived in and tried to make sense of a subject that could be very difficult for a child to understand.

“She was talking about death and all that stuff and I wanted her to feel good about, like, not dying or anything and also, like, ‘Well, you were a part of Mom, so you will always have me, so even if mom died, you were a part of me, ‘”Clarson shared.

“‘You were in mommy’s belly, actually. So you were always a part of me, so it never goes away. You are in my body, so carry mommy, so in a way, mommy will never die with you because I am a part of you. ‘”

The “Miss Independent” singer, who shares River with former Brandon Blackstock, is also the mother of her 4-year-old son, Remington. She said that River took those words of wisdom that she shared and applied them universally.

“And then, she understood it like any woman in the world, regardless of whether you have a stomach or not, walks and asks, ‘So you have a baby there?’” She said.

“No matter who it is, she is very excited about ‘Don’t worry. If you die, she will still carry you. Yeah, like, you missed the … we shouldn’t be telling people that they’re pregnant. This is another. Yes, it did. “
