‘Katy Perry came and delivered’: Singer closes grand opening show with display of explosive fireworks

Presenting her 2010 seminal hit “Firework” in a red, white and blue dress, the Grammy-nominated pop artist sang in front of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and husband Doug Emhoff looked.

The fans were overjoyed on social media, with one declaring: “KATY PERRY CAME AND DELIVERED”.

Another wrote: “You are not officially the President of the United States until Katy Perry sings ‘Firework’ for you.”

Chrissy Teigen even intruded on Twitter, writing: “And then @katyperry killed him.” (Teigen’s husband, singer John Legend, sang a version of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” earlier in the evening.)

“Now THAT is the way Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ deserves to be sung,” wrote another fan.

“Lady Gaga starting the day perfectly and Katy Perry ending it perfectly. We were blessed, ”wrote another.

Lady Gaga performed at the beginning of the day at the inauguration ceremony for Joe Biden, where he sang the national anthem.

The day was filled with great performances, with Jennifer Lopez also singing a medley of “America the Beautiful” and “This Land Is Your Land”. Country singer Garth Brooks was also present during the inauguration ceremony to sing “Amazing Grace”.

The remainder of the “Celebrating America” TV special, however, featured additional sets of Justin Timberlake and Ant Clemons, Foo Fighters, Demi Lovato, Jon Bon Jovi, the aforementioned John Legend and Bruce Springsteen.
